La dia de los muertos

One last decisive meeting had to be held today. Which project is going to be our main focus - we had the possibilities of: a police watchtower, kiosk for the beach, a bridge with the span of 10 m between two parks, the yogi center at the Eco-Farm and lastly the project we chose, which is a pavilion thats' purpose is to provide shade for people on the beach.

We sent out declines to all the projects which we could not take part of. We tilted between doing either one or two - since they were smaller than original project.

Settling for just one, thinking it was better to do this more complex and precise. Rather than dividing the focus and group on two and then potentially reducing the quality of each. After sorting this out we went for a field-trip to the beach and spent a few hours observing and mapping it. Concluding with a short presentation of the first impressions we had. Almost everyone desired to affect the site as little as possible - and complement it with light structures placed on the beach, rather than within the rocky formations.

The site consists of tree surrounded by boulders that form two rather private terraces with a view towards the horizon where the sun sets. Behind this is an elevated sandy plateau with a view through the rocks and the tree. The rocks, horizon and the tree creates an interesting composition that should be preserved by the built structure.

After being on-site we went to what we thought was going to be a bus stop. We were told that this was where a bus leaves to the cemetery. There was a big celebration by the name "La dia de los muertos" - which translates to the day of the dead. Here we ate some good homemade lunch from the stands around the cemetery.
