Bambooo

This morning Christian, Wilma, Jørgen and Jan went at 7.30 to meet up with the driver of this orange truck. We went to have a look at the 400 pieces of bamboo and select the "nicest" ones. We had the luxury of sitting in the back of the truck, both ways. To the site of the bamboo since there was not enough sitting places inside the cabin of the truck, and back so that we could see if the bamboo sticking out would hit any cables on the way to Playa Mann.

When we got to see the bamboo, and the way it was stored we were not very happy. And it didn't help when we saw that the "canutas" (the pieces that separate the compartments within the bamboo) were not pierced - usually you pierce them in order to treat the bamboo with borax salt from within, and so that it can dry properly.

Well, from uphill to downhill - the bamboo delivered to the site missing some cables with only 10 cm, and a lot of progress was done by the people that worked with the foundations and preparations on site.

We had ice-cream and tested out our bamboo splitter - it worked, but not very efficient. Afterwards Carlos the head of the scouts and the man that sells ice-cream showed us a better technique for splitting bamboo, with a hammer and and axe.

Today was the best day in terms of project so far - and hopefully more and better days will come.
